Constructing the Architecture of Fashion
11 January - 11 March
As a prelude to the fashion week a new exhibition kicked off at The Center for Architecture New York. It isn’t about buildings or bridges, however, it’s about fashion and dress.
The exhibition shows how materials used in architecture are making their way to the catwalks in the form of pliable metals, membrane structures, lightweight glasses and flexible plastics.
Additionally the exhibition shows how draping and pleating is entering the world of architecture.
Works by practitioners such as Zaha Hadid, Winka Dubbeldam, Shigeru Ban, Kivi Sotamaa, David Adjaye, Block Architecture, 6a Architects, Lars Spuybroek, Stuart Veech and Meejin Yoon are showcased alongside architectonic apparel from fashion mavericks such as Martin Margiela, Hussein Chalayan, Yoshiki Hishinuma, Yeohlee, Pia Myrvold, Yohji Yamamoto, Boudicca, Eley Kishimoto, Kei Kagami, Michiko Koshino, Stéphanie Coudert, Simon Thorogood, Nicola de Main, and Arkadius. The exhibition features a special installation from Paris-based artist Lucy Orta.
Oh to be in the northern hemisphere!
