Christiane Diehl creates these extraordianry jewellery and wearable pieces. In her “kollection’” series Christiane uses recycled inner tubes and rubber bands. It takes a specially trained eye to see the potential offered by these materials transforming them into something with particular aesthetic appeal and practicallity.

Worn with attitude these pieces make a bold statement.

Lisa Jones and Symbiosis

Sculpture using the Jacobsens chair

I couldn’t help including this image as well

Currently on exhibition until February 28 at Multiple Box in Danks street is the work of Lisa Jones. Inspired by da Vinci’s anatomical drawings and using Jacobsonens’s Series 7 chair she has created five sculptures.

In her words

Within my sculptural objects a language of internal opposition exists that informs the whole. This apparently conflicting exchange defines the work through the tension between order and chaos; the organic and the refined; repetition and divergence; progress and reversal.

View footage of Zaha Hadid’s concept of the perfect house and extracts of interview at at IMM Cologne here

The two-story structure has no roof, the walls and furniture appear to grow directly out of a floor that in some cases is totally uneven, and the ceiling is an arched sky. The inside and outside, the top and the bottom - everything blends together fluently.” (PR IMM)

Antlitz: a local countenance

23 01 2007

dsc_26912-1.jpg

The jewellery of Dorte Bundt and Ke Wu, otherwise known as Antlitz, German for countenance, comes to town and is now available through Yoshi Jones where I am currently working sourcing designers and and doing a range of other things.

What makes our jewellery unique is the modular thinking behind the design concept: for the imagine series, the arrangement is divided into a triptych form, meaning the earrings and the pendant make up the three parts of the a full image, not only is this play of unity and division visually interesting but it’s also very functional. Antliz jewellery can be worn as set, individually or mix and matched with other jewellery.

More information can be found on their website or come down to Yoshi Jones’s to see the pieces first hand. The finish is quite remarkably luminous, lightweight with a specially treated scratch resistant surface with UV protection to avoid fading and discolouration. Each piece will retain it’s original appearance well into it’s lifespan.

Thanks Dorte for the images and the Imagine series. Stay tuned for more work from this couple in the coming month - word has it there is a new design to be released.

Stand II by Vito Bila; hand raised silver and copper

And now for some unabashed family promotion. The younger of the siblings work will soon be venturing off to other shores to promote his work through the initiatives of the Australia Council and JamFactory International Craft. His work has been very well received both in Australia and overseas with work currently in the collection of the Art Gallery of South Australia. To his list of exhibitions are shows in both Rome and Amsterdam with more in the planning.

Collect is the only International art fair in Europe that showcases the work of contemporary craft and design from around the world.

Artists on show at Collect in London this February include Vito Bila (of course), Sally Larsland, Kirsten Coelho and Scott Chaseling exposing them to new market opportunities.

More information about these organisations, images of work, articles and reviews can be found via the links at DesignHub.
