Is an annual exhibition of student art + design works that address issues of sustainability, environmental responsibility, social equity and community. Changex is now into its third year, the exhibition will be complemented by an expanded series of events of interest to young designrs, professionals, and community members alike.

Works showcased in the exhibition have been drawn from a wide range of design fields including industrial design, architectureics, installation and multimedia.Retaining its emphasis on recent graduates, this year’s exhibitors will also include high school students and current students from the University of Sydney, UTS, UNSW, COFA and UWS.

These diverse projects approach design as a tool for satisfying genuine human needs in ways that are both practical and imaginative, challenging the conventional expectations of the design industry and extending the boundaries of their discipline.

The launch party of ChangeX was amazing – lots of people, great music, and lots of conversation on the nature of sustainability, the projects, possibilities, and other projects! Check out the Change Design blog for a full write-up on the events of the night, as well as ongoing updates on all ChangeX events… at http://www.changedesign.org/index.php/

The exhibition runs throughout this week (Mon March 6 to Tues Mar 14) at the Pine Street Creative Arts Centre, and the next events are:

***Saturday March 11th – – DIY workshop day with bookbinding, bike fixing, clothing repair/swap, possibly guerilla gardening, learning about cooperatives, and whatever else the participants may bring to share!

***2 til 4 pm, Sunday March 12th – – If you are a student entering your graduate year in any design or related discipline, bring your ideas for a major/grad project to this workshop to bounce them off our lineup of sustainable design consultants from a variety of fields including textiles, graphic design, architecture, product/industrial design, and fine arts. A friendly and flowing discussion about design, sustainability, ideas, and the politics of choosing an approach for the grad year. Students in other stages of their degree, design-enthusiasts, and others are welcome to come along and participate in discussion, or just listen in.

***4 til 6:30pm, Sunday March 12th – – “LEFTOVERS: the bits in between design”… Talks and an open forum on the leftover spaces, overlooked people and discarded objects/waste of mainstream design culture, and how we can bring about a more collaborative, inclusive culture of design. Speakers: PAUL PHOLEROS, RICHARD GOODWIN, LINDA CORKERY, ELLIAT RICH & CRAIG ALLCHIN. [please try to be on time so we can start promptly]

All these events are ‘by donation’ – we ask that you buy raffle tickets and/or exhibition catalogues and/or drinks when available, and/or sign up as members of the Society for Responsible Design. This is to pay for ChangeX 06, and any money left over will go in the kitty to initiate ChangeX 07!

    See you there!
